With so much boondocking in our future, it was time to replace the energy-sucking bulbs and replace them with LEDs. Here’s what we used and our review.
We just purchased our camper this fall and got an amazing deal. But what wasn’t amazing was how much energy the lights used. Since most of the time we’ll be boondocking, lowering the energy consumption was a priority. So off we went to check out online sites.
After hours of reading reviews, we finally made our decision. We purchased 20 cool white LED bulbs and a 4-pack of LED tube lights. Now here’s my disclaimer- they are on the inexpensive side for lights. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and we were OK with taking the gamble. I figured we were getting 20 lights for the same price as 2 at a different store. If at least two worked, I would be happy.
A few days later, our lights arrived and my husband installed them. Every single one worked! No flickering, no odd colors, they were perfect!
As you can see in the picture, there is a huge color difference! They do have a slight bluish tint, but once they were all installed, they look like a normal white to us. And we went from 18 watts per bulb down to less than 2 watts! That is great!
My husband was too speedy, so I didn’t get a comparison shot with the fluorescent tubes. But the colors are identical and we’re very pleased with them.
We’ve used them for one boondocking trip to the Denali area so far, and they all worked perfectly. I will update my review if the need arises, but right now I’m impressed at these inexpensive bulbs! I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again!
