Although I see a lot of moose along the roads, it wasn’t until I seen this video that it made me question what I’d do if I actually hit a moose. My gut said to call the Alaska State Troopers no matter what, but I still wanted to know the right answer.
What To Do If You Hit A Moose
First of all call 911 or the Alaska State Troopers non-emergency line whether the moose was barely hit or dead. Even if it walks away, authorities may want to come out and monitor the moose. If you’re not too shaken, give the Alaska Moose Federation a call at (907) 336-6673. The Alaska Moose Federation picks up moose from roadways and delivers meat to charities and families in need. Normally the troopers will call them, but it is always nice to give them a heads up.
So there you have it- please put both the Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Moose Federation’s numbers in your cell phone so you’re prepared in the event you or another vehicle hits a moose.
Psst- Do you want to know what to do if a moose is staring you down?
